Graffiti Removal Can Go Wrong - Be Careful Who You Engage!

If you are not careful with whom you select to work on your building, then you could end up with more problems after removal than you started with! Unfortunately our industry is not regulated so we do have some unscrupulous characters doing very average work in an unsafe manner.

We regularly see damage like this when we are called in after the event to fix buildings up.

When brick and concrete walls are damaged by incorrect chemical selection, use and incorrect pressure cleaning techniques, the only way to fix the wall is knock out the bricks and replace them!

You will also have ongoing issues with salt deposits, rising damp and premature brick crumbling and structural failure.

When graffiti is sprayed onto your masonry walls like brick, concrete, sandstone and granite it penetrates and soaks deep into the surface like ink into chalk! It takes a highly skilled technician with experience and patience to draw it out with the right technology and not erode or degrade the original surface.

Anti Graffiti Coatings

Protect Your Property and Signage from Expensive and Unsightly Graffiti
Using the Latest and Most Effective Anti-Graffiti Coatings

Did you know that:

  • Most companies in this industry fail within 5 years due to the complexities!
  • If used by unskilled people, even mild chemicals can damage colourbond, signage and paintwork!
  • 20% of the work we get called in to do is fixing up the poor quality work of others!
  • You are responsible for the tradesman you have on site and the safety of the work they do!
  • Repair work resulting from application of incorrect techniques can be 5 times more expensive than the original job amount!

A wall cleaned correctly can be cleaned hundreds of times with little adverse effect. However, it takes ONLY ONE incorrect technique to permanently disfigure a wall.

About the Graffiti Eaters - a 35 year old family business in its second generation.

The Graffiti Eaters have seen many contractors come and go over the years. We started back in 1977 and have developed our unique surface restoration system from the ground up. Our Surface Restoration Vehicles, chemical technology and quality processes have all been designed, built and created in house. No other company has access to the state of the art formulations we have devised that enable us to get the results we can in restoring your walls. We employ qualified Mechanical Engineers who study the removal of surface deposits from substrates and ensure our technology is state of the art.

Experience Counts!

Regardless of the surface you have defaced by graffiti, we can fix your problem!

Graffiti comes in MANY different forms. It can be paint designed for decorative colour, heat resistant engine enamel, cold gel corrosion paint or texta pen (which can be water, methylated or solvent based).

There are literally hundreds of different combinations that react and behave differently on the thousands of different types of building surfaces used today in construction. The training and experience of the technician working on your building is vital in ensuring YOU get the best outcome in terms of great results at the most cost effective rate.

Many maintenance facility companies, general brick cleaners and franchise groups claiming to be experts at everything dabble in graffiti removal. There are actually only a handful of companies in Australia that have the experience to get results and not cause underlying surface damage.

Every Graffiti Eater Surface Restoration Technician is qualified to our "University of Graffitiology" training program that takes 12 months to master and complete.

Technology is the Key!

To complement our highly competent Technicians, we use custom built Surface Restoration Vehicles, built with love by our Engineering Team.

You cannot restore surfaces properly and in full compliance to legislation operating out of a ute or a light tray truck with a pressure cleaner. The most efficient equipment has size on its side to get the job done quickly and efficiently. You also need the capacity to house all of the required Quality, OH&S and Environmental Equipment to get the job done under full compliance.

We will save you 30% billable time on site over our competitors with this equipment!

Graffiti Removal from Masonry Surfaces

(brickwork, concrete, bluestone)

Masonry surfaces are very porous and suck in graffiti like a sponge. The trick in removal is using a system that softens the graffiti and draws it to the surface then allowing it to be cleanly removed off the surface. Using the wrong type of chemical and technique can permanently soak graffiti into a surface causing ugly shadows. Sand or Garnet blasting should never be used on masonry surfaces.

Graffiti Removal from Sandstone, Limestone, Granite, Marble, Terrazzo etc.

Many heritage listed buildings have old, delicate and weathered soft stones that require extra special care and processes. These surfaces can absorb graffiti up to several millimetres deep and are very soft and can be disfigured easily.

Graffiti Felt Tip Pen on Sandstone

Graffiti Removal from sandstone can be very difficult to remove, especially when the graffiti is felt tip pen as it penetrates deep into the sandstone making removal extremely difficult.

Graffiti Removal from Steel Surfaces

Graffiti Removal from Steel Surfaces like colourbond steel, galvanising, zincalume, brass, aluminium and stainless steel.

Steel surfaces are very durable and non porous so graffiti soaking in is not an issue. They do however, often have delicate surface coatings to prevent corrosion and these can be damaged, worn threw or scratched. The best method of removal is a slower but more accurate hand cleaning technique that controls dwell time and pressure on the surface coating. The use of an incorrect cleaner can permanently damage zincalume and galvanising. The use of an incorrect technique quickly wears through the high spots on Colourbond. Remember once these surfaces are damage they rust!

Graffiti Removal from Screen Printed/Computer Cut Vinyl Signage

One of the many challenges that City Councils, Shires and Road Authorities face is the continual graffiti attack on road signs.

Many councils have problems removing graffiti from delicate road signs because most chemical formulations damage the special reflective qualities the signs must legally possess.

Graffiti Removal from Trees, Timber and Timber Paling Fences.

Timber is absorbent and has a grain that traps graffiti making it difficult to remove. Using an incorrect base of cleaner can burn and disfigure timber sending it black in colour. On weathered paling fences an over clean mark can be a bi-product of the removal process, requiring the entire paling to be cleaned from top to bottom. Over a few months the paling will re-weather, making removal unnoticeable.

Graffiti Removal from Cars, Trains, Buses and Automotive Duco.

Removing paint off paint is always an interesting challenge. Correct processes rely on using cleaners that when used with the correct dwell time, break down the softer fresh paint first, leaving the baked automotive enamel unaffected underneath. It is important to remove graffiti on these surfaces when the graffiti is fresh and within 1 week old for best results. Once it is baked on by the sun, the dwell time window is reduced making removal more difficult, longer and costly.

Graffiti Removal from Painted Surfaces.

On good quality painted surfaces most graffiti can be successfully removed using cleaners. If the painted surface is older and oxidised, then removal is often difficult as an over clean mark can stand out as much as the original graffiti. In these cases it is often more cost effective and a better quality result is achieved, if the graffiti is sealed in, colour matched and repainted. The quality of the paint blend then comes down to the skill and training of the Technician to match the paint colour and give it a weathered look so that it blends in with the rest of the façade.

Graffiti Removal from Truck Bodies.

Many a Truck Driver has arrived at his truck to find it dirtied by graffiti. When he gets over the frustration of wanting to do some serious injury to the vandal that did this, he then focuses on the time it will take to remove the graffiti and what damage may result.

Graffiti Removal from a Mod Grass Tennis Court

Mod Grass has become very popular with the extended drought and watering of grass being an issue. Unfortunately that also means this horizontal surface has become a target for vandals.

Mod Grass is actually plastic and difficult to clean because solvents dissolve it and remove its colouring.

Graffiti Removal from Rendered Surfaces.

Cement render is more difficult to clean stains like graffiti, rust and pollution from than natural brick because it is so porous. Stains can soak a long way into the render. Special care and equipment is required when pressure cleaning to ensure the render is not disfigured.
